Acupuncture

Leading the Way to Good Health

Acupuncture is a thousand year old Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as Chi or Qi — that is believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, an acupuncturist can re-balance your energy flow.

The goal of acupuncture is to activate the movement Qi throughout the body and to address the root cause of underlying imbalances. By treating the body as a whole and unique organism, acupuncture can support recovery from illness and disease and lead you towards health and total wellness.

Frequently Asked Questions

It acupuncture safe?

Yes. The risks of acupuncture are very low. At Lighthouse Wellness Center, our licensed practitioner will use sterile needles that are disposed after each treatment.

It is important to discuss your medical history before acupuncture treatment. If you are pregnant, have a pacemaker, or bleeding disorder, you may not be a candidate for acupuncture.

What can I expect?

Before treatment, we will do an initial evaluation to ensure that you are a candidate for acupuncture. We will want to understand any symptoms you are currently experiences and any previous treatments.

Each treatment typically includes 5-20 needles inserted at various depths in specific points on your body. The needles are thin and cause little to no discomfort - you may feel a brief pinch upon insertion. In most cases, the needles remain in place for about 15-30 minutes while you lie still. Most people do not feel any discomfort upon removal of the needles.

Is acupuncture treatment ongoing?

The frequency of acupuncture treatments needed varies based on your individual needs. A typical acupuncture series will consist of 6 to 12 sessions. Some patients feel better in just a few sessions, while others may need long-term care. During your initial visit, we will review your symptoms and create a plan that will yield optimum results for your condition.
